Rumors: A  story that spreads from one person to another and believed to be true even though there is no proof of its touth.

*Sentence* I´ve heard rumors at school that we are getting a new teacher.

Acquaintances:  A person whom one knows but with whom one is not chose friends.

*Sentence* I say hello to her every day, but we are only acquaintances.

Authorities: Person with power to make and to enforce rules.

*Sentence* Because of the blizzard, the authorities decided to send the students home.

Embarrass: To cause to fell nervous or ill at case.

*Sentence* He tried to embarrass us by playing tricks on us.

Stoop: A small stair-case leading to the entrance of  a house or another building.

*Sentence* Old houses had an small stoop.

Foster Home: A household in which one or more children who are not related to the parents are sheltered and care for.

*Sentence* Some persons are in a foster home because they don´t have a place to live.
